התמזל מזלי, ובעת ששבו לציון מגלות ארצות הברית, קבעו הורי את מקום מגוריהם בירושלים. כך שאני מתהלך ביניכם כמו סלב שקיבל הזמנה להצגת טרום הבכורה של הסרט שכולם מדברים עליו: קריסת מדינת ישראל. בעוד שכולכם תוהים מה הסוף, אני כבר ראיתי מה קרה לירושלים. איך עיר כושלת ניהולית ומפורקת ערכית מתדרדרת תחת פוליטיקאי כושל אחרי פוליטיקאי כושל עד שהיא ננטשת מאליטותיה הכלכליות, היזמיות והמשכילות והופכת לבולטימור.

מה בעצם האתוס המשותף שנשאר ממדינת ישראל? הרי אצל הסמוטריצ'ים חברת המופת זה נערי גבעות שמרביצים לערבים. הם בזים לכל מה שמערבי, מתקדם, פרוגרסיבי, רואה את החלש ומכיל את השונה. מה לי ולהם חוץ מחיבה לסופגניות? הדת, שהיתה פעם מכנה משותף, נחטפה.

מחאת השירות הצבאי נוגעת בנקודה האחרונה של הלכידות החברתית הישראלית. חברות לאום נבדלות מקרבה תרבותית במוכנות להיהרג בקרב למען האחר. אני מאוד מחבב את התרבות הצרפתית, משוגע על "אמילי בפריז" ושם חמאה אפילו בכוס מים, אבל בחיים לא אלך להילחם את מלחמתם בניז'ר. הרעיון של ג'ורג' בוש האב על קואליציות דמוקרטיות לא החזיק מעמד הרבה זמן. גם נאט"ו לא באמת הופעלה אף פעם. נראה ברגע האמת כמה גרמנים ובריטים יהיו מוכנים להיהרג בשביל פולין. אבל גם הדבר הזה נשבר בישראל, כי אין פה באמת חברה משותפת. ישראל ידעה להכיל את מלחמת לבנון הראשונה ואת השירות בשטחים. היא לא יודעת להכיל מופרעים כסמוטריץ' ובן גביר, שמקומם כממלאי צ'אנס בדוכני פיס, כחברי קבינט. אין להם אמון בשלטון כזה, בטוהר כוונותיהם, באנשים שהם מייצגים. נגמר. נשבר. נמעך. הסיסמאות לא עובדות יותר.

Anyone who is not completely ultra-Orthodox will not find any favor in Bnei Brak, Elad, Beitar Illit and large parts of Jerusalem.Pleasant urbanism is not a value there. The elites abandoned slowly, and then quickly. Once upon a time, when Naftali Bennett joined the government with Netanyahu and Lapid in 2013, there was a sentence he used to say: "We will deal with the 80percent that we agree on and assume the 20percent that we don't."Over the years, I was a guest in his office and asked what happened to the 80-20 equation (which is high-tech in its perception). "It became clear to me that the 20percent that we don't agree on is more important than the 80percent," he replied.In a nutshell this is the whole story of political philosophy.
