##A Call for Nuclear Disarmament in the Middle East and the Entire World

There are moments in history when humanity stands on the edge of an abyss — moments in which the decisions of leaders, human errors, or even deadly coincidences may lead to a catastrophe from which there is no return. It seems that we are living in such a time. The world is entering a renewed nuclear arms race, and our region — the Middle East — is one of the most dangerous places on Earth.

As an Israeli citizen, I cannot ignore the growing anxiety. We live in a region saturated with tensions, historical conflicts, opposing ideologies, and deep divides between peoples and cultures. Introducing nuclear weapons into this equation is not merely a danger — it is a potential disaster on a global scale.

Nuclear weapons are not just another tool of war. They are not “just another deterrent.” This is a force of absolute destruction — one capable of erasing entire cities within seconds, killing millions instantly, and causing environmental and health damage that will last for generations. A nuclear war, even a limited one, could lead to a “nuclear winter,” global famine, and the collapse of social and economic systems. This is a scenario that cannot be contained — only prevented.

The real fear is not only from a deliberate decision to use such weapons, but also from error. A technical malfunction, a mistaken intelligence assessment, an overreaction — all of these have nearly led to disaster in the past. In the Middle East, where trust is low and pressures are high, the risk is even greater.

Therefore, I wish to raise a clear voice: we must act for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons — first in the Middle East, and ultimately throughout the entire world.

Regional nuclear disarmament is not a naive dream. It is a difficult and complex goal, but a necessary one. It requires political courage, international cooperation, and the recognition that true security does not come from the ability to destroy — but from the ability to live together without reaching that point. A nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East could be a first step toward a more stable future, where nations do not live under a constant existential threat.

To achieve this, dialogue is required. International agreements with strong oversight are needed. Transparency and trust-building must be developed — a long process, but a possible one. The world has already seen examples of nuclear disarmament and reduction. It is not impossible.

But beyond politics, this is a profound moral question: are we, as human beings, willing to hold in our hands the power to destroy all of humanity? Does the very existence of such weapons not represent a failure of human civilization?

I believe humanity is capable of choosing differently.

I believe there is a path in which Israel, its neighbors, and the nations of the world can place human security above all other interests. Not מתוך weakness — but from a deep understanding of our shared danger.

This is not only a political call — it is a human one. A call for life.

If we do not act now, we may not have a second chance.

יש רגעים בהיסטוריה שבהם האנושות עומדת על סף תהום — רגעים שבהם החלטות של מנהיגים, טעויות של בני אדם, או אפילו צירופי מקרים קטלניים, עלולים להוביל לאסון שאין ממנו חזרה. נדמה כי אנו חיים בתקופה כזו ממש. העולם הולך ונכנס למירוץ חימוש גרעיני מחודש, והאזור שלנו — המזרח התיכון — הוא אחד המקומות המסוכנים ביותר על פני כדור הארץ.

כאזרח ישראלי, אינני יכול להתעלם מהחרדה ההולכת וגוברת. אנו חיים באזור רווי מתחים, סכסוכים היסטוריים, אידיאולוגיות מנוגדות, ופערים עמוקים בין עמים ותרבויות. הכנסת נשק גרעיני למשוואה הזו אינה רק סכנה — היא פוטנציאל לאסון בקנה מידה עולמי.

נשק גרעיני אינו עוד כלי מלחמה. הוא אינו "עוד אמצעי הרתעה". מדובר בכוח הרס מוחלט — כזה שיכול למחוק ערים שלמות בתוך שניות, להרוג מיליונים באופן מיידי, ולגרום לנזקים סביבתיים ובריאותיים שיימשכו דורות רבים. מלחמה גרעינית, אפילו מוגבלת, עלולה להוביל ל"חורף גרעיני", רעב עולמי, והתמוטטות מערכות חברתיות וכלכליות. זהו תרחיש שלא ניתן להכיל — רק למנוע.

הפחד האמיתי אינו רק מהחלטה מכוונת להשתמש בנשק כזה, אלא גם מטעות. תקלה טכנית, הערכת מודיעין שגויה, תגובת יתר — כל אלו כבר כמעט והובילו בעבר לאסון. במזרח התיכון, שבו רמות האמון נמוכות והלחצים גבוהים, הסיכון גדול אף יותר.

לכן, אני מבקש להעלות קול ברור: יש לפעול לפירוז מוחלט של נשק גרעיני — תחילה במזרח התיכון, ובהמשך בעולם כולו.

פירוז גרעיני אזורי אינו חלום נאיבי. זהו יעד קשה, מורכב, אך הכרחי. הוא דורש אומץ פוליטי, שיתוף פעולה בינלאומי, והכרה בכך שהביטחון האמיתי אינו נובע מהיכולת להשמיד — אלא מהיכולת לחיות יחד מבלי להגיע לכך. אזור חופשי מנשק גרעיני במזרח התיכון יכול להיות צעד ראשון לקראת עתיד יציב יותר, שבו מדינות אינן חיות בצל איום קיומי תמידי.

אני מאמין שהאנושות מסוגלת לבחור אחרת.

אני מאמין שיש דרך שבה ישראל, שכנותיה, ושאר מדינות העולם יוכלו לשים את הביטחון האנושי מעל לכל אינטרס אחר. לא מתוך חולשה — אלא מתוך הבנה עמוקה של הסכנה המשותפת.
